Visiting Scholars

The MAE Center invites applications for residency as visiting scholar in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Urbana-Champaign. Visiting scholars devote an academic year in residence to do research and writing about topics closely related to the core mission of the MAE Center. The program is open to scholars in all disciplines provided their research plans qualify.

Visiting scholars have an opportunity to work closely with faculty of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Urbana-Champaign who are leading experts in their fields and are invited to participate in weekly seminars and lectures sponsored by the Center or other units on campus. Scholars are assigned an office space and have access to the Grainger Engineering Library and to a wide range of activities and resources throughout the University.

Candidates should have a doctorate or equivalent professional degree and a strong record of research publications appropriate to their career stage. Typically Scholars hold faculty positions at other universities or colleges.

Ordinarily their home institutions provide their salaries in addition to all benefits, although this is not a requirement for appointment. Upon admission, the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering requires a fee of $1,000 for the use of the department facilities.

Interested scholars should contact a host faculty in the department or directly the Center director, Prof. Paolo Gardoni:
