Marathon Pipeline and MAE Center Meet to Discuss Possible Collaboration

The MAE Center and Marathon Pipeline LLC held a meeting at the MAE Center on November 4 so that Marathon could learn about research activities at the Center and to discuss possible ways in which the Center could assess the potential seismic risk to the company’s petroleum pipeline network. Marathon has a significant portion of its pipeline network that lies within the New Madrid and Wabash Valley Seismic Zones. Jeff Donnelly, Systems Integrity Leader for Marathon Pipeline, met with Amr Elnahsai and Timothy Gress. Elnashai gave a presentation about the MAE Center and typical impacts to underground pipelines from catastrophic earthquake events. Both organizations agreed to future discussions and meetings that would be focused on the possible use of the Center’s MAEviz earthquake impact and visualization to model impacts to Marathon’s pipelines.
